014: Love and the Devil
A look at Caleb Love's true shooting percentages against Duke and non-Duke opponents.
Caleb Love is a volume shooter.
Love has attempted more shots (1190) than Luke Maye (1182) in 51 fewer collegiate games. Only five players in Carolina history have attempted more three-point shots than Love.
Fans refer to his play as the Caleb Love Experience because of inconsistent performances. And I’m not sure you have ever watched a player and mumbled “no, no, no, YES” on more shot attempts than Love.
At times, his decision making on the court feels like it belongs in a stunt with Johnny Knoxville. And at other times, he flashes brilliance and delivers moments you will never forget.
Caleb Love’s dream school was Duke. In five games against Duke, Love has given the Blue Devils nightmares with his shot making.
The St. Louis, Missouri native has played 90 career games. In the 85 against opponents not named Duke, Love has put up a true shooting percentage1 of 47.3 and scored about 14 points per game.
Love has scored 101 points with a true shooting percentage of 58.1 in five games against Duke. This includes shooting splits of 44.0 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from three, and 92.0 percent from the foul line.
In the Final Four win over Duke in New Orleans, Love made two of his first nine field goal attempts. He finished making nine of his last 11.
Caleb might love playing against the Blue Devils. And with two of Carolina’s last nine games coming against Duke, the Heels could use that kind of experience.
