027: ๐พ ITA women's rankings
North Carolina has seven players in the top-100 of the latest ITA singles rankings.
The 2023 ACC Women's Tennis Championship tournament started yesterday in Cary, NC. The ACC has eight teams in the top-25 of the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
North Carolina is a perfect 27-0, 13-0 in league play, and the number one seed in the conference tournament with a double-bye.
The Tar Heels have seven players in the top-100 of the latest ITA singles rankings.
A few notes using the latest ITA singles rankings:
Fiona Crawley is the number one player in the rankings. The distance in points between Crawley and the second ranked player is ~12 points, the fifth ranked player is ~27 points, and the 10th ranked player is ~37 points. Dominant.
The rankings list 125 players. The ACC has the most players amongst conferences with 39. The SEC follows with 34 players, and the Big 12 (14 players) and Big Ten (13 players) round out the top four conferences. That means 101 of 125 ranked players compete in one of those four conferences.
Only three schools - UNC, NC State, and Georgia - have two players ranked in the top-20.
Carolina opens play in the ACC Championship on Friday in Cary. You can find the tournament schedule here. The data used in this chart is from the ITA. And the code for the chart can be found here.
