010: Generational rebounder
Armando Bacot's 1170 career rebounds rank second all-time in North Carolina history.
Armando Bacot has an impressive collection of rebounds. Through 115 games, Bacot has snagged 1170 rebounds. This ranks second all-time in school history.
The senior is 49 rebounds shy from Tyler Hansbrough’s record of 1219 career rebounds. Bacot has grabbed nine or more rebounds in 13 of 15 games this season.
Bacot is averaging 10.2 rebounds per game through his career. The only Carolina players ahead of him in career rebounds per game all played before the United States landed on the moon. The moon!
15 regular season games remain for Carolina and if Bacot maintains his career rebound per game average, the senior will shatter the all-time record. Hansbrough’s rebound record has stood for over 13 seasons. It’s possible Bacot’s may never be broken given the current landscape of college basketball.
The plot below shows any players with 1000 or more career rebounds or any players with a rebound per game average of 9.8 or more.
All but two of the players (Rusty Clark and Kennedy Meeks) have their jerseys in the rafters of the Smith Center.
Dating back to the start of last season, Bacot has recorded a double-double in 40 of his last 54 games played. He is one of eight Tar Heels to average a double-double in points and rebounds in their career.
In ACC play, Bacot is averaging 21.3 points and 12.0 rebounds per game this season. If Bacot keeps this pace, he will likely win ACC Player of the Year and find his jersey in the rafters too.
